Washington, N.C. — [9/3/25] — United Way Inner Banks is partnering with local legal professionals to host a Beaufort County Expunction Workshop, offering community members a chance to clear eligible criminal records and open new doors to employment, housing, and education.
A criminal record can create lifelong barriers, even for individuals who have worked hard to move forward. Expunction—the process of legally removing certain charges or convictions from a person’s record—provides a second chance. By clearing eligible records, individuals may gain better access to jobs, housing, training programs, and financial security.
At the workshop, participants will receive:
Free legal guidance on the expunction process
Eligibility assessments to see if records qualify
Step-by-step support to complete applications
Connections to local resources for long-term success
“United Way is committed to breaking barriers that keep our neighbors from thriving,” “This workshop gives people a chance to move forward, provide for their families, and contribute fully to our community.”
