Take-A-Turkey-to-Work Day Brings Our Community Together

ree

Every year, Beaufort County shows its heart. The tradition continued this week as local organizations joined forces for Take-A-Turkey-to-Work Day, an annual effort that helps ensure families across our area have a holiday meal on the table.

Businesses, churches, civic groups, and everyday neighbors took part—dropping off frozen turkeys, canned goods, and donations that will go straight to households facing tough times. It wasn’t just a food drive; it was a reminder of what makes our community special. People stepped out of their routines, paused their workday, and gave what they could. The response was generous, steady, and full of genuine care.

This year’s event once again highlighted the powerful impact of local teamwork. Organizations like Eagle’s Wings, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office, and the many volunteers on the ground helped coordinate donations and ensure they reached the families that need them most. As the Washington Daily News reported, the turnout reflected not only holiday spirit but a shared belief that no one in our community should go hungry.

For those who donated a turkey on their way into work - or contributed in any way - thank you. Your kindness directly supports local families and strengthens the safety net so many rely on.

And for anyone who couldn’t participate this time: there are still ways to help. Eagle’s Wings continues to accept donations throughout the year, and volunteers are always welcome. Hunger doesn’t pause after the holidays, and neither should our commitment to helping one another.

Moments like these show what can happen when a community stands shoulder-to-shoulder. A simple turkey becomes something more - a sign that we care for one another, and that no family in Beaufort County faces hardship alone.
